BUT WHERE DOES OLAOLA ACTUALLY COME FROM?

It was in 2011, in France, near the city of Montpellier, that the OLAOLA brand was born. John Tassi, the young founder then 22 years old, created a concept of selling ice cream and smoothies for takeaway on the beaches of the south of France.

Over the years, the company grew, and up to 25 OLAOLA vendors graced the warm sands each summer. The popularity of OLAOLA products continued to grow among consumers. One of the company's strengths was its ability to differentiate itself from what already existed on the market. Very quickly, John decided to offer his customers homemade products filled with real fruit. This led him to create numerous smoothie recipes and then develop his own frozen bars: "The Crunchable Smoothie."

And why is the name OLAOLA?

Originally, the name OLAOLA was the name of a song John invented, the very one he used to make himself heard and spotted by vacationers on the beach! That's why he named his company OLAOLA. And you could hear something like this:

"OLA OLAOLA, OLA OLAOLA, sweets – doughnuts – ice cream – coffee and fruit all summer long, it's OLAOLA here to treat you!!"

You can imagine the music, and the number of children who knew the song by heart. Oh, the poor parents!

Today the name OLAOLA reminds us of our origins, the sea, the beach, the sun, pleasure and lots of fruit.

OLAOLA IS COMING TO QUEBEC!

After several years of travelling in Europe and the United States, John and his partner Aurélie decided to move to Montreal with the shared ambition of settling there long-term and investing professionally.

Having just arrived, John decided to embark on a new entrepreneurial adventure and create a new company inspired by his work in France. In 2020, OLAOLA Inc. was founded with the mission of offering a new line of healthy, fruit-rich products.

From the very first summer, new ice cream bars appeared on the Quebec market and the feedback was extremely positive and promising.

THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
IN OUR DNA

To reduce its environmental impact, OLAOLA has opted for reusable containers for its ready-to-blend smoothies. The smoothie cups serve as both containers and can be reused after consumers have prepared their smoothies at home or for takeaway service.

Already accustomed to repurposing fruit for his ice cream bars in France, John also moved towards more responsible sourcing in Quebec by buying surplus produce from fruit and vegetable wholesalers. This is how, since 2020, Le smoothie à croquer popsicles have been helping to reduce food waste.

OLAOLA also initiated the project and facilitated the launch of the non-profit organization Improove, an impact project that repurposes surplus fruits and vegetables from distributors and producers through zero-waste baskets. Learn more at improove.ca
